As we marked the 60th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education ruling in May 2014, our coalition launched a series of community conversations to discuss our shared vision for great schools in Dallas ISD. We also surveyed Dallas ISD residents to get their input on ensuring a high-quality public education for every child. In total, we heard from more than 1,000 members of the Dallas ISD community. Our goal was to provide authentic opportunities to engage our community—to hear from those who are affected both directly and indirectly by school reform—in the process to develop a real plan to improve Dallas ISD neighborhood public schools. Our Community, Our Schools presents this report to give voice to the urgent cry from our community for a great school for every child, and to offer proven, research-based strategies to help us get there.
